Detailed care & tips
Light & placement
Place near an east or north-facing window where it receives bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct noon sun which can scorch leaves. Can tolerate lower light but growth will slow.
Watering & feeding
Water thoroughly until water drains from the pot, then allow topsoil to dry before the next watering. Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 6–8 weeks during the growing season for best results.
Pruning & shaping
Trim lightly to maintain bonsai shape. Pinch back new growth to encourage branching. Use clean scissors to avoid infection.
Soil & repotting
Well-draining, airy potting mix is best. Repot into a slightly larger pot every 12–18 months; upgrade to a 5″ self-watering pot if you want longer intervals between waterings.
Common problems & fixes
- Yellowing leaves: check for overwatering or poor drainage.
- Leaf drop after moving: give it a week to acclimatize; avoid frequent moves.
- Brown leaf edges: too much direct sun or low humidity — move to indirect light and mist occasionally.
